There are thousands of news articles on deviantART, and a lot of them don't get much recognition. Many deviants just read the "headlines" of the articles on the front page, if that. But there is so much devious news beneath the popular articles - and not just on the site, too. There are dozens of websites that specialize in art news that many deviants may appreciate. But where are all these articles, and how can you read them all with your busy schedule?

Leave that to us. Introducing devCAST - the unofficial deviantART news podcast. Twice a week, we gather up the most recent news articles of several categories, summarize them, and broadcast them in a bite-size, downloadable audio file. If you're interested in the articles talked about, visit the devCAST page for links to each article spoken about and read the rest yourself.

What is it?
devCAST is a podcast. Wikipedia says that it's "...a web feed of audio or video files placed on the Internet for anyone to subscribe to, and also the content of that feed." Basically, you throw a feed in iTunes, Odeo, or a similar podcast receiver. On Saturdays and Wednesdays, when there's a new podcast, your computer downloads it automatically. Pretty great, huh?

So what do you talk about?
Things that deviants are interested in. There are three main categories at the time of writing: site news, art news, and miscellany.

Site news is a summary of what happened on deviantART in the past few days. We talk about upcoming events, contests, site updates, bug fixings, and whatever else seems important. It usually centers on news articles and journal entries.

Art news is a collection of important news in the art world. In this section, discussion usually centers around new techniques, important artist milestones, and art's interference with current events. This section is based on news articles on deviantART, but often incorporates articles from other big names in news.

Miscellany is the section for everything else. In each podcast, we'll talk about some way to make your devious experience better. This features anything from journal improvements to hidden pages on deviantART.

Contests features contests with news articles about them. We may start using a new system soon, though - and will therefore be able to cover more contest.

devCAST news just keeps you up to date with the goings on behind the scenes.

Upcoming categories include Devious Rants and Software, and little is currently known about them. (Not even by us.)

Why should I listen to this?
Well, it's a podcast. You get it twice a week and can listen to it on your computer or MP3 player. And since it briefs all the top devious news in no more than ten minutes, you can read what interests you and stay away from what doesn't. We're just here to make your devious time here easier.

devCAST Needs You!
devCAST is currently looking for pixel artists! Since the team isn't pretty good at pixel art, we're asking the deviants for help. We've got a few things that need to be redone. Pixel artists interested in helping out should check out this page. (There are prize-like things, too!)

Of course, we're always looking for content to feature. Just put your link to the test - if it passes, send it to us.

Interested?
We'd like to suggest listening to the most recent episode if the above has piqued your interest. It'll give you a taste of what's to come.

Hi:

I stopped doing this six months before you left this comment. (It took me 11 to respond, too.)

Is there anywhere where we can get a hold of previous casts?
Reply
:iconj2n4me:
Why? It'd be just like reading the old news articles here, except read by various stereotypes on badly thrown together midi and keyboard music. You're not missing too much. Though we did have a bit of fun with some issues and articles, there really wasn't much that drew people, which was the main reason it closed.

If enough people wtf at me, I'll definately consider starting it up again. But it'll take a damn lot of convincing, and I'll actually need input on what to do.

Still, if you want the previous devCASTs that much, I'll upload them somewhere and let you know.

'closed due to lack of interest'

Why!? I thought it was a brilliant idea!!

Lol.. Simply because there was a lack of interest. People didn't listen or care enough. We went on for a long while though.
